The Genesis of Sleepypod

Back in 2004, Melony Lee wanted a safe way to travel with her kitten, but couldn’t find anything that adhered to a high level of pet safety. Melony partnered with Micheal Leung to create the first carrier prototype of what they then called the Rawl Rawl. After popular demand from the public, they went forward with creating the perfect design and dozens of revisions to create what we know today. After about a year and a half of revisions, Greg Mote joined the team finalizing the finished product that combines technology with enhanced safety. 

Based in Pasadena, California, Sleepypod has been innovating tested and certified pet products since 2006. A product created not only out of a need but also the love of her cat, Melony and Michael have been providing fur parents everywhere the peace of mind that their pets are safe when traveling.  

A Closer Look at Safety: Crash-Tested Assurance

Since 2010, they have conducted multiple crash tests, creating better and better crash-test dogs to be used when crash-testing their products to have better weight, distribution, and bio-fidelity. They are the pioneer in conducting crash tests to ensure pet safety. They are still the only safety harness approved by the Center for Pet Safety and one of six approved travel pet carriers. In 2018, the entire line of pet safety restraints was crash-tested at the US, Canada, and European child safety restraint systems standards.
